Women Read More than Men

According to sufficient proves, adult women read more fiction than men, attend libraries and book clubs more frequently, purchase more hardcovers, and, perhaps, write more fiction stories than men. If women did not continue reading, the novel would vanish into the thin air.

Reading Habits

According to a fiction best-seller list, printed in The New York Times, 11 out of 15 novels were written by females, who tend to express their viewpoint through the plot, characters, innermost thoughts, and personal experience. Today, books for women, represented by various genres, including sci-fi, zombie novels, thrillers, and mystery, seem to supersede men’s readings.

Undoubtedly, male authors do not write only about men, as well as female authors do not write exceptionally about women; although, they possess a substantial female readership. It should be stressed that in the past, women experienced publishing restriction and were treated mostly as caregivers and housewives. Nowadays, they dominate the market for fiction. However, despite discrimination, the female authors seemed to write and publish their novels from the emergence of this genre.

Consider the list of such authors as Dickens, Bronte, Austen, Joyce, Balzac, Eliot, Lessing, Shelly, Fitzgerald, etc. Some of them males, others are females. All of them have told their stories from the perspective of both genders. Their narrations, not being restricted to a particular gender, are about human beings.

The gender of a narrator has nothing to deal with their originality and creativity. The fundamental determinant is a talent, a unique and enigmatic gift that does not succumb to discrimination and criticism. A gifted female novelist can touch the heart by conveying her story about a male character just as a male author can play the same game with his female protagonist. Consequently, there is no explanation why women both control the reading market and read more books. Although it is as easy as ABC to realize the equality of economy and opportunity, it is impossible to understand artistic and intellectual equality.
